Thomas Baylis, MD

Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Baylis is a native of Selma, Alabama. He completed medical school at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson; and his orthopedic surgery residency at Erlanger Medical Center-University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Chattanooga, TN.

He completed a fellowship in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham. Prior to joining South Central, Dr. Baylis worked with Premier Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Hattiesburg, where he was founding partner.

Dr. Baylis is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

Charles Black, DO

Orthopaedic Surgeon

Charles Black, IV, DO, completed medical school at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic training in the Henry Ford-Macomb Hospital in Warren, Michigan. Dr. Black received his fellowship in Adult Joint Reconstruction at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Black joined the physicians and staff at South Central Orthopaedics and South Central Sports Medicine in September 2016.

Jeff Burns, MD

Orthopedics

Jeff Burns, MD, completed medical school at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Following medical school, Dr. Burns completed an internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at SUNY Stony Brook University in New York.  He completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute. Dr. Burns is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Prior to joining South Central Orthopedics, Dr. Burns worked with Premier Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Hattiesburg, where he was founding partner.

William Morrison, MD

Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. Morrison is an Orthopaedic Surgeon, who graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He completed his residency in Grand Rapids, Michigan, under the auspices of Michigan State University and received a Fellowship in Sports Medicine/Orthopaedic Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He has had academic appointments to the Department of Surgery to Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, as a clinical instructor. His interests are in total joint reconstruction and trauma.

Dan Diers, DPT, ATC, MPT

Dan Diers, DPT, ATC, MPT, received his Bachelor of Science with an emphasis in Sports Medicine and Exercise Physiology with minors in Biology and Psychology from Northern Illinois University in 1994. He completed his Master of Physical Therapy from Governors State University in 1998. He completed his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Governors State University in 2015. He served as a student Athletic Trainer for the United States Swim Team in two different Olympics and also served as a student Athletic Trainer for NCAA swimming championships for 4 years. Dan has been employed at South Central Regional Medical Center since 2001 and taken specialty courses in manual therapy and vestibular rehabilitation. His primary clinical practice is outpatient orthopaedics and vestibular rehabilitation. He is also involved in the development and program design of SCRMC’s SportsPerformance+ program, focusing on athletic enhancement. Dan has served as the Athletic Trainer for South Jones High School since 2001.

Joel Pierce, PT, DPT, ATC, CSCS

Joel Pierce, PT, DPT, ATC, CSCS, has been employed with South Central since 2004.  He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine and Athletic Training. In 2004, he graduated from the University of Mississippi Medical Center with a master’s in Physical Therapy. In 2010, he completed his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Joel is a certified Athletic Trainer through NATABOC, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through NSCA. His clinical practice primarily focuses on orthopaedic sports medicine rehabilitation, with special interests in the knee and shoulder. Joel is affiliated with the Jones County Junior College Athletic Department for rehabilitation of their post-surgical and injured athletes.  He is also involved in the development and program design of SCRMC’s SportsPerformance+ program focusing on athletic enhancement. He has served as the Certified Athletic Trainer for Laurel High School since 2005.

Kirk Landrum, ATC

Kirk Landrum, ATC, serves as Coordinator of Wellness and Sports Medicine at South Central Regional Medical, as well as Sports Performance+.  He has worked at South Central Regional Medical Center since 1996.  He is a graduate of University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor’s in Sports Medicine with an emphasis in athletic training.  He received a master’s in Public Health with an emphasis in health administration from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2003.  He is certified in Sportsmetrics and has been the primary developer of the Sports Performance+ program at South Central.

Ashley Brooks, FNP

Nurse Practitioner

Ashley Brooks, FNP, completed nursing school from Jones College in 2011 and then received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UMMC in 2018. She completed her Master’s Degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the University of Southern Mississippi in 2019. Ashley has served as a RN at SCRMC for 12 years, with the last 5 years in the operating room. She is continuing her education and training as a First Assistant in Surgery.

Ashley currently practices in orthopedics and also has experience in family practice and pain management. She enjoys providing orthopedic patient care to our community.

Chuck Everwine,

South Central Sports Performance+

Chuck Everwine is a graduate of Liberty University and has a bachelor’s degree in Business Management.  He has always had a love for sports and fitness, which led Chuck to a career in personal training. He previously owned and operated a private fitness facility in Laurel, Everwine Fitness. Chuck is an AFPA certified personal trainer, and was the first Training for Warriors (TFW) certified instructor in Mississippi. Originally from southeastern Pennsylvania, he now resides in Laurel, MS, with his wife, Lara and three kids, Luke, Will and Emily.

Todd Breland,

South Central Sports Performance+

South Central Sports Performance+ is excited to have 28 year coaching veteran, Todd Breland, join the team. Breland has a bachelor’s degree in Coaching and Sports Administration and a master’s degree in Athletic Administration. Laurel native, Breland, has served many years on the athletic fields at area schools and has stepped away to focus on the other side of athletics. He is married to Rebekah and they have two children, Morgan and Maddox.

Chad Caraway, NP

Daniel McCallum, Sr., MD

Dr. McCallum is a native of Washington D.C., and has spent the last 12 years in Natchez, MS. He completed medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington D.C., and he completed a combined civilian and military orthopedic residency at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in Fort Bliss, Texas and Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

He completed a fellowship in sports medicine, arthroscopy, and knee and shoulder reconstruction at Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Cincinatti, Ohio where he trained under Frank Noyes, MD. Prior to joining South Central, Dr. McCallum operated a private practice in Homer, Alaska for eleven years. Between 2010 and 2012, he worked as locum tenens physician with Weatherby Healthcare. He spent eight years as Team Sports Medicine Orthopaedist at Alcorn State University. Most recently, Dr. McCallum was a hospital employed orthopaedist at Natchez Regional Hospital/Merit Health Natchez.

Dr. McCallum is a fellow with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and he is board certified in orthopedic surgery.
