SCRMC HealthBreak | Pediatric Physical Therapy

Posted on May 21, 2018

The mission of South Central’s pediatric physical therapist is to promote the highest quality of life for all children with developmental disabilities and their families. Grace Brunk, a pediatric physical therapist at South Central, explains that some common reasons that parents seek physical therapy for their children are cerebral palsy, down syndrome, maybe they aren’t walking at the same time as other kids their age, and maybe there is some kind of movement dysfunction. After a referral from your pediatrician, the first step is to have a physical therapy evaluation. They will get the parents to communicate the child’s birth history, any issues they had at birth, any surgeries, or anything that would impact the therapist’s care as well as what is their concern. The therapists will do a good examination of the child, and then they will develop a treatment plan to address the issues found during the examination. The earlier a child begins physical therapy, the greater the impact therapy can have.
